Having a large, aquiline nose, too wide or too long, is usually not a problem. Although in certain cases, the shape of the nose can generate large complexes. On these occasions, living with a nose that you don’t like marks your entire life, as it is one of the most difficult physical traits to hide. If you are one of those people who refuse to accept what Mother Nature has “gifted” them, perhaps you have ever thought about having a nose job.

Risks of the operation

The wounds will be inside the nose and will not be visible at any time. Unnoticeable scars will only remain at the base of the nose if it is necessary to narrow the nostrils or if the “open” technique is required.

Although it should not be listed as a complication, you should know that approximately one in ten cases needs a small retouch afterwards. This situation is unpredictable in practically all cases.

Preparation for surgery

A rhinoplasty is a highly personalized procedure since each person is unique and their features are unique. The shape of the face, the shape and structure of the nose, the type of skin etc. They will say the type of needs that each patient has and therefore, the type of surgery to follow.

Initially, a computer imaging study is done. This image serves the surgeon to show the patient what can be achieved, and thus see if the reality is within the patient’s expectations. This simulation is not a guarantee of the final result, but it helps the surgeon a lot in operation itself.

If you undergo a rhinoplasty, you must strictly follow the instructions of the surgeon and healthcare personnel. Always comment on the medication you are taking or if you have a disease or an unhealthy habit (like smoking).

It is performed under general anaesthesia, with a hospital stay overnight. Rhinoplasty is mainly based on “sculpting” the bone and cartilage framework that is under the skin of the nose. As a rhinoplasty surgeon in Miami, all this is done through incisions that are inside the nose and that, therefore, leave non-visible scars. If the nose is “difficult”, it may be necessary to make an incision in the skin that separates the nostrils (known as a columella) is what is known as an open technique. Only in this case and when it is necessary to narrow the wings of the nose can scars remain that, although visible, are usually inapparent.

Simultaneously, the correction of any abnormality that causes respiratory distress such as deviations of the nasal septum can be performed. This procedure is called a rhinoseptoplasty. They are usually somewhat longer interventions that do require hospital admission overnight. When the operation is finished, a cast is usually placed on the back of the nose and plugs are placed inside the nostrils.

Returning to normal after a rhinoplasty

During the postoperative period, the discomfort that may arise will be alleviated with analgesics. During the next 24 hours, it is advisable to be at rest to better control the discomfort and avoid bleeding. You should not be scared, because bruises and inflammation will appear around the eyes, which will increase during the following days.

The nose plugs will be removed in the first 24 hours. Although if the septum has been operated, it will take 2 to 4 days. The cast is removed in about seven to ten days.

In approximately ten to fourteen days, the bruises and much of the swelling will be gone, and they will appear almost normal.

The results

Keep in mind that, depending on the “change” that has occurred in the nose, it may take more than four months to see the final result. A good surgeon always looks for a natural nose, without the consequences of surgery. So that people who do not know the patient do not realize that it is an operated nose. Many times the acquaintances themselves do not perceive that the nose has been operated, they realize that it is more beautiful, but they do not know why.
